What Does LASIK Surgery Involve?
LASIK is a surgical procedure that uses a medical laser to reshape the cornea in order to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. All procedures are performed in the comfort and convenience of an office, and you remain awake throughout the surgery.
LASIK procedures are virtually pain-free. While you may feel light pressure during the procedure, most patients find it is not uncomfortable. The surgery takes about five to fifteen minutes, and vision can be corrected in both eyes during the same visit. However, you should expect to spend approximately 60-90 minutes in the office for the complete preparation and recovery process.
Following the procedure, most patients do not experience pain, and eyedrops can be used to alleviate any dryness or scratchiness. LASIK is a permanent procedure whose benefits last a lifetime. For a small number of patients, retreatment may be necessary to obtain optimal results.
