Dry Eyes Treatment And Therapies

Are You Suffering From Dry Eyes?

Dry eye syndrome is a common eye problem that affects approximately 10-15% of adults. Dry eyes are caused by decreased tear production, poor tear film quality, or excessive tear evaporation. Patients with dry eye syndrome can range from those with mild symptoms and minimal ocular surface disease to individuals with severe and disabling irritation and the potential for sight threatening corneal complications.

Most Common Dry Eyes Symptoms

The most common symptoms of dry eyes can include burning and/or watering eyes, fluctuations in vision, tired feeling eyes, and sometimes aches in the eye as well.

Dry Eyes Treatment Strategies

Several different dry eyes treatment strategies are available. While the use of artificial tears is helpful in some, in moderate and severe cases interventional treatment is often needed. Special small inserts, which can be inserted into the lower or upper tear ducts, or both, have become a more common in office procedure to treat patients with dry eye symptoms which do not respond to topical treatment.

Special Inserts We Use At 20/20 Eye Centers

What can these special inserts (also known as plugs) do for you? They stabilize vision, reduce the need for tears, make your eyes less red, pretty much reverse many or even all of the symptoms you are experiencing with Dry Eyes syndrome.

Prescription Options

For patients where the inserts are not effective enough, we can prescribe Restasis® as a treatment option.
